Its on again. What better reason to celebrate at the beach house!

What does the 'AB' stand for?

I would imagine it would be something akin to 'Anthonys Back' good work

It stands for "At (the) Beach." duh.

Travel arrangements

 

Some are keen to go down on Friday morning and some are keen for Thursday night.

Thursday night advantage: We have all of Friday and will actually be able to do something such as sea biscuiting or whatever if its nice.

Friday morning advantage: It won't be rushed and won't be dark when we get there, but won't likely arrive until after 1pm at which point half the day is over.

Hokai soh, we have too many cars going down. I am now going to join the Friday morning bandwagon.

So I am definately driving as I'll have the boat. Advantage is we can put lugguage in boat for easy transport down there so I can confortably fit 3 extra people with unlimited bags and eskis/beer. Also its a big fuck-off landrover (the one we saw backed up over a ditch last year) so its got a ton of boot space as well.

 

And in fact, I just stole Michael and Sarah :) ...assuming the roads outside your house are boat friendly..?? I've also reset some of the cars which were travelling at the same time so you can reassign them back if you feel compelled to drive your turbos chargers down (Duncan) to take us for let us go for rides in.

 

Sounds good - can I wear a sailor hat and ride on the boat on the way up?  Also - I'm happy for anyone who wants to meet here for co-ordinated embarking.  New address is on the contacts page.

 

Using trusty google maps, your street looks pretty easy to drive the boat along and plus, there is an easy block to go around so no 6-point turns yay.

So, perhaps using your house as a start point would be good so we can unload some stuff/unwanted people into the boat for easier transport. Disadvantage is that if we all leave at the same time, I'll be a little slower than everyeone so you'll have to play some cricket or something until we get there.

 

How does 9:30am at Michael's sound to everyone (who wants to meet there)?? :) I know its early, but it gives us more of Friday to do stuff.

Saturday night is pub night. So one less set of BBQ food is required. Still copious amounts of beer and stuff though.

Ness and I will bring a !!leaky 2 man tent!! and set it up in the shed (we found 2 mattresses that work, so she's roses).

I'm bringing 3 or 4 (can't remember) air mattresses with a battery pump.  They're singles though so either you and Ness can get extra cosy or else use two. 

I will have a high flow pump for such applications also. Its a stand on and pump with your hands (kehheh), but only takes a few pumps to fill beds and in flatables etc.

I will bring along a 4 (3 in comfort) man tent just as backup.  I also have an electric lilo pump thingy that will hopefully be charged tonight...

 

 

Directions

Coming from Hobart, go towards Port Arthur. At Sorell turn right at the traffic light. Go forwards through Forcett, Copping, Dunalley (left across bridge), Murdunna, Eaglehawk Neck, Taranna then to the red dot about 6 k's on. Go past the Fortesque Bay turnoff we took the last camping trip.

 

You will first hit the red dot on your way to Port Arthur which is is the start of a tiny district called Oakwood. There is nothing here but a roadside sign saying Oakwood. A large building and parking area on your left and then your first sight the water of Port Arthur. On your left you will see a small gravel road heading along the shore which is a second Fortesque Bay road (different entrance to the one we took camping). Don't take this.

 

Continue on the main road for about 400m, during which time you will lose sight of the water for the trees, to the green dot which is the beach house. This is 6659 Arthur Highway, Port Arthur. It's got a largeish gravel area in front of it, a gate, and two 5m tall posts either side of the gate and FEK load of trees. Go down and you'll spot a huge grassy cleared area and a house. Voila! Not to be confused with a cleared bit of land about 100m before my driveway on the left. Probably with a campervan on it. Not mine. Go past this and slow down as my driveway is on a rising corner in a 100k/h zone.

 

If you miss my driveway, you will come across a pink building on your left after about another 200m. This is seascape (which is where Martin Bryant ended his campaign) and is not me. Go back. IF you manage to hit the black dot, this is the Fox and Hounds hotel. It's an English style white building with black, wooden criss cross beams. Large area with carpark. Also our local bottle-0 for the weekend. Can't miss this one, again, turn around.

 

Total travel time from hobart 1h 10m.

Ladies, lets lock in the 16, 17, 18, 19 of April as the weekend of OMGWTFBHWAB. This gives us some time to plan and for me to readjust to Australian life with driving cars and stuff. Everyone seems to be a yes except one Vanmani maybe which I'm now turning into a yes.

 

So are these dates set?  Because I should be putting in leave for the Friday ASAP.

J-Dwagg will probably not be able to go due to a competition he has to go to, sorry guys. fail.

Updated: Okay so I have to be about 45 minutes out of Launceston till 3pm, but since you are great guys and I want to see everyone, I'm going to skip awards dinner and drive from there to Port Arthur, arriving around 7pm ish in the evening on Saturday. Sorry I can't be there for any more than this, but would be great to see everyone.

Hoorays, we get to see a JamieHo! Hopefully you don't bust up your leg in the shower this time :P

 

Dates have been highlighted now for about 5 days with only Jme unable to attend. Taking this to mean that everyone else is available, we should all try to get that Friday off work. I propose a lunch on Wed/Thurs/Fri this week to eat and drink beer and perhaps talk about confirming these dates and working out what we want to do. Whether we go down Thursday or Friday night etc.
