Modern Warfare 2
Modern Warfare 2 is $77 at DSE in town - all platforms, they were behind the counter when I went. JB have it for $79 as well (and Kmart Big W have it for $78 but they aren't in town). Kmart is actually $79. It's only $1 but I believe in fixing my own factual errors. Good prices though.
Argh! Still don't know what platform to get it for! :( Must decide soon...
360 :P (God I'm helpful)
If I had a 360 my dilemma would be the same. The problems are:
- Will it annoy me playing an FPS on the console? Everyone thinks that and everyone gets over it. I'd get over it easily if I didn't have a Pea Sea. But I do so I shouldn't need to compromise.
- If I have it on the console I have to fit in play between Diana's television watching so can't always play when I want to. That'll teach you for getting married. I should have written a pre-nup to avoid this...
Heh, I was more saying it because it adds no value to your decision, rather than because I have a vested interest either way :P Yeah I got that :)
Also, I'm sure you're aware of some of the decisions that were made regarding the PC version and lack of dedicated servers and whatnot.
In the interests of actually helping you in your decision, If i was in your situation I'd go for the PC version, purely because I dislike FPS/TPS aiming with the PS3 pad. (Coming from someone who has played and finished Uncharted, Uncharted 2, inFamous and Killzone 2, all games requiring a decent amount of twitch based aiming on the PS3)
I am no better off on the PS3 just because it was never going to have ded servers. So that hasn't swung me towards the console version. Basically the only thing that is making this hard is that Sam wants someone to play MP with. Otherwise it'd be PC all teh way.
Man I want to go home...
Have you seen that the PC version won't let you install until it's released in the US which will be another 24 - 48 hours. Can be worked around though.
For anyone who hasn't clicked: the sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is going to rock hard. Should be out about November 10th.
Plans on getting it
Lambeaux
Smurf - There is no way I am getting this game for PC. No dedicated servers? You have got to be joking. Even CS beta 1 had support for dedicated servers (I dont think the ability to do it is the issue - I do still feel it was a disappointing decision though). After the horrors of Left 4 Dead, I am giving this a wide berth. I am sure that they are trying to sabotage the PC release to get people to buy it on consoles.
Auron will get it, but the question remains as to what platform to get it on...
Beren (and Auron the correct answer is PC.) I'm thinking I'll get it on PS3 prob. We can play at lans on PC with backup versions so it depends how you want to play on the intarwebs as to which version you'll get.
Pazu will get it on the 360 methinks.
If I get Borderlands on PS3 I might get MW2 for PC.
FYI if you do get Borderlands for PS3 you won't be able to play with us /sadface
Yeah I know, but I wont be able to on a PC either (surely). And I have no 360 /Sadder face. But Sam has it on PS3 so I'll be able to play with him
Should get it
Everyone
Pre-order deals
www.play-asia.com have it for ~$75 pre-order for those who are keen. Anyone seen any other good value pre-orders? Don't forget to add on at least $10 for shipping for that. Well price is US$60 which is AUD$70 as I write this now. So probably add $5 - $10 bucks on that for shipping I'd guess. I suppose it depends how quickly after release it'll get shipped. I've never pre-ordered with them before.
Realistically - I dont plan on pre-ordering anywhere. With the advent of JB in Hobart you've almost certainly got an avenue for day one purchase of a game . Also, based on previous JB purchasing I'd guess that the maximum you will pay for the standard edition is $99. Most things are more like $80 there first week but there was something I got recently (I think it was Batman) that was $99. I turned out to be too lazy to pre-order (or possibly too pre-occupied with something else) so I will be shopping at JB on the 10th.
News
Little bit behind the eight-ball but for PC peeps who haven't heard MW2 is dropping the usual dedicated server based multiplayer infrstructure and going with what is basically exactly what consoles do which is use controlled servers to set up peering based on matchmaking (private games still being possible of course). It's pretty big news given that it could be the start of a move that way for other publishers. Potentially means the end of custom maps, mods etc (in the context of multiplayer) for new games and kills the idea of communities built around particular servers. I was disappointed when I heard this.
