Distributed Computing

Don't let your System Idle Process have all the fun. Join a DC project today!

DC is wicked. Lambeaux in particular likes it. His first experience was with Prime95 but that turned out to be very slow and there was nothing you could "see" happening. Danger started off with some Seti@Home I believe but I don't think he does it anymore.

  • True. apparently i did 7216 hours. i got really into it, changing its priority overnight etc, killing basically any non-system process. I kept pace with somebody on a 1200mhz (had 800) for a few months. I tired of it after a while, and gave up after all my team disbanded. I had a short stint with folding@home but didnt like the client or its caching abilities, which i got used to running setiqueue. I did a round or two of the distributed.net RC5 too. Lambeaux got me back in it with prime95, for which i ran about 4 months non stop, when i finished a single unit i left for some random boinc projects. Didnt really like the client, as management is done over the internet and I only have dialup. grr, so that only lasted a few weeks. SInce then the biggest thing run was my thesis which kept my box happy for about a month.

Lambeaux is currently Folding@Home for the OCAU team. The F@H client seems pretty cool. It's a balance between information and a bit of something to see.

Foldix - A Unix Distro just for folding.

This seems pretty cool. Pop the CD in, it'll format your hard drive (no questions asked) and put on a unix distro ready to fold. Type 'getfold' and it downloads F@H for you. Too easy.
