So who actually has the game and plays/is interested in playing? I've just got my graphics card and internets going so I'm looking to start playing again, and Vanmani has the game and wants to start playing...anyone else care to join?
I plan on getting my shit together this week and hopefully I'll get some internet tubes driected at my house soon. In which case I'll be back on with the 2142.
Thoughts on the game
I find the weapons very spammy and the gameplay akward. I am not impressed it's a big let down from BF2 and I am disappointed in paying good money for it. Seems as Dice's days of good game development are numbered
I do not feel very comfortable in the game yet. I have maily been playing the assault class with the med kit and paddles, hoping to get teamwork points. I will have to play a littl more with the other classes. Because my current install of BF2 is corrupt and I left my CDs in Melbourne (and the fact I payed almost $100 for the BF2142) I have "burned my bridges" as it were. I want to make sure I really give it a chance.
I quite like the game, although I found it very difficult to play conquest without knowing the maps and very difficult to attack a titan once the support guys have setup sentry guns. Oh, and I am Recon all the way. Knives and sniper rifles FTW. And camo is cool, when you find a noob. And demo charges are awesome. And I like the vehicles. Um yeah thats about it, and I need to play more to be able to judge properly.
The game has potential. It was pretty damn cool playing Titan mode and getting owned all map, 2 consoles down before we even broke the enemy Titan's shields... then Trling and I (and a couple other randoms) just charged in there and blew the shit out of the whole thing inside of 45 seconds to win the round.
Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how the fuck to kill people yet. I am concerned that these default weapons are just piss poor in light of the fact that I am repeatedly getting the jump on people, firing lots of sensible bursts into their face, and being unable to kill them for a ridiculously long period of time. There must be a trick to it though, because other people seem to be able to kill people very quickly indeed. There is also other general learning curve issues, in that I don't know what weapons are what, or where to shoot armor/mechs etc. etc.
So I read some guides on the INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY. Apparently going prone is a bad idea, which is the idea I was starting to get towards the end of last night. Since it fucks up your aim royally for a few seconds (long enough that you're dead). Crouch is the new prone, apparently. Only prone when going for real ranged shots/are gonna be on the ground for a while.
Before the game:
A new game is approaching, and people are getting excited. It's nearly time to take FGI's pwnage of the Battlefield to a new setting, a new time, and a new level. If anyone's got any ideas about how we're going to go about kicking arse left right and all over the show, chuck them on here.
For now, let's get a list of people that have signed up as Veterans and are intending (at this stage) to buy and play the game.
- {FGI}Emergent
- {FGI}Citizen_Erased
- {FGI}Pazu42
- {FGI}Vanmanivan
- {FGI}Lambeaux
- {FGI}danger
- {FGI}X-sane
- J-Dawgg
Does everyone just have the name without the FGI? THe clan tag system in 2142 allows {}'s now which is good. Yeah, i put the {FGI} tags up and started representing.
Alright, it's looking good d00ds. Is there any reason we're using brackets for clan tag rather than braces? IMHO braces are cooler. But it's no big deal.
I believe the tag system doesn't allow braces. I prefer braces too, but I also think the brackets fits in with the 2142 style, has a bit of a sci-fi feel.
You all lose points for having capitalised names. capitalisation ftl
Proper nouns for life, yo!
Yeah, I Like Capitalisation. Alot. :D
Unlocks (all of them, not just the crappy half on the official site)
Glabal score requirements for ranks This is a fantastic explanation of how quickly you can rank up and get those juicy unlocks. What is also interesting is that it seems you can get certain boosts to your global score for doing things like a 5 kill streak and 10 kill streak and stuff. Also getting gold and silver (and I assume bronze as well) gives you a significant global score boost. (not so sure about that now) Hopefully this stays in for the final version.
Does anyone else find it humourous that the Engineer's Repair Tool is called the 'HOFF-3000'?
Given our numbers looks like we are going to need a couple of people to take it for the team and concentrate on being squad leaders, especially in the early rounds, i am happy to do that (given i have played more squad leader time in BF2 than squad member, but probably need someone else as well
I shotgun a spot. frankly, im more qualified than anybody else here, under my pesudonym 'artillery' so you are the one who are aways pwning me? MAN?!?!1
We should probably all get in on the squad leader action at some point, or at least give everyone who wants to the opportunity. But you're right, the specialised squad leader equipment means that a couple of people should concentrate on it first up. I'm pretty keen to get into some Recon gear, but it's hard to say at this point whether a Recon would make a good squad leader or not. Plus it depends on who is actually playing at any given time.
I dont think it's worth focussing too much because like Ling said it depends who's online at any time. Although if people want to specialise I won't argue. We'll all get a go in good time. I think Support and Assault will be the best Squad Leader kits (based on experience with BF@). But we'll just have to wait and see.
Since the squad leader now has a respawn beacon he can place, I can put my hand up to do this and not worry about the squad getting pissed off when I am picked off by arty EVERY FREAKING MINUTE!
Thoughts on the demo
I likey lots. The setting is nifty and the gameplay is great. Titan mode = much faster games. The UI is much better than BF2 (not a hard thing to do) and the weapon firing feels more tactile, though it's still hard to tell when you are actually hitting an enemy. Launch pods are hella fun. The game seems a fair bit simpler in the demo but that's mostly due to the reduced number of kits. The new and improved upgrade system looks to fix that up. I found the sniper rifle much better in 2142 than BF2 as well. At this stage I'm probably wavering between recon and assault as my main class, I need to research what abilities they get access to later on. That said, the Engineer/Anti-Tank is pretty nifty too. With the Support class I couldn't hit anybody with the damn machine gun but it was great at dealing damage to the reactor core.
First things first I just have to say that I pwn hard. Playing against noobs rocks. I havent tried out much stuff yet, but the scar-11 seems pretty damn deadly. So far I have really only played as assault and engi. I only played support once and I couldnt hit a guy on the other end of a bridge so I gave up. I tried to get some sniping happening but the circumstances weren't really good for sniping at the time. I jumped in the hover tank for a round and dominated. Strafing in a tank is good fun. I don't like the (extremely) generic sci-fi setting nearly as much as the BF2 modern combat one. Overall I found the whole demo experience to be kind of meh. I have more fun playing BF2. UPDATE: Overall the infantry combat seems way more spammy than BF2. Get up close to an enemy and hold down the trigger till you get a head shot or they drop anyway. Reminds me of shooting people with the Q3 machinegun. This may have been the nature of the guns I have used so far, but it seems everything is more carbine like rather than rifle like. Oh, and the knife worked very well for me - 1 swipe, 1 kill. Getting dogtags owns.
Duncan is going to be like those guys who still play CS1.6 because they think it's better than CS:S, also they have no friends.
Friends are overrated when you have BF2. Pilots are more important :P
